Frequently asked questions

Answers about UK casino licences, bonus rules, payments and safer gambling, and about how BestCasinoRanks works.

Licences and safety

How do I check a casino's UK licence?

Find the licence or account number in the casino's footer, then search for it on the Gambling Commission's public register at gamblingcommission.gov.uk. Check the licence status is active and that the website address is listed under that account's domain names. We show the number for every casino we list.

Do you hold a gambling licence?

No, and we don't need one: we don't offer gambling. BestCasinoRanks is a comparison and information site owned by Bazeli Trading Ltd in Cyprus. You open accounts directly with the licensed operators.

What happens if I have a dispute with a casino?

Use the casino's complaints procedure first. If it isn't resolved within eight weeks, UK-licensed operators must let you take it to an approved independent alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider, named in their terms. We can't resolve account disputes for you.

Are casino winnings taxed in the UK?

Gambling winnings are not subject to income tax or capital gains tax for players in the UK. Operators pay gambling duties themselves. If your circumstances are unusual, ask a tax adviser.

Bonuses

What is the maximum wagering on a UK casino bonus?

Since 19 January 2026 bonus wagering requirements in Great Britain may not exceed 10x, and operators may no longer make you play across different products, such as sports and casino, to unlock a single bonus.

Are no-deposit free spins really free?

They require no deposit, but they usually have a low spin value, a single eligible game, a short expiry and sometimes a cap on winnings. Read the terms before you register. Sky Vegas is the only casino on our current list with a no-deposit element.

Why don't you show a bonus amount for every casino?

We only quote an offer when we could confirm it from consistent sources on the check date. Where sources disagree, as with 888casino on our latest check, we tell you to check the operator's site instead of guessing.

Payments

Can I use a credit card at a UK casino?

No. Credit card gambling has been banned in Great Britain since April 2020. Debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, bank transfers and some e-wallets are accepted instead.

Why is my first withdrawal slower?

Casinos must confirm your identity and may run checks before releasing funds. Uploading your documents promptly when asked usually solves this. Later withdrawals tend to be quicker.

What's the lowest minimum deposit on your list?

bet365 and Sky Vegas accept deposits from £5, and Grosvenor accepts £5 for most methods. Welcome offers usually need more, typically £10 or £20.

Safer gambling

What is GAMSTOP?

GAMSTOP is a free self-exclusion scheme covering every online gambling business licensed in Great Britain. You choose a period of six months, one year or five years, and you are blocked from all participating sites for that period.

Where can I get help with gambling?

Call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 (free, 24/7) or use the live chat at gamcare.org.uk. Gambling Therapy offers support in several languages, and the NHS runs specialist gambling clinics. See our responsible gambling page.

Can I block gambling payments with my bank?

Many UK banks and card issuers let you switch on a gambling block in their app, which stops card payments to gambling merchants. Some make you wait before it can be switched off again.
